Vintage Vari Di Bagh wedding dupatta is given by the bridegroom's family whereas rest of the phulkaris the bride brings from her family. It is a heavily embroidered dupatta on a handwoven red khaddar base with a silk floss thread. Meenakari Bagh (or Ikka Bagh or Patanga -Kite), is often made of gold and white coloured pat and is decorated with small leaf motifs and border in barfi lozenges. The pattern creates an IKKA (playing cards) or a Patanga- Kite like motif designs all over. Vari da bagh, may include a differently embroidered triangular portion which covers the bride’s head (ghunghat bagh). Bagh was a visual symbol of prestige and indicative of the family’s affluence. The work here is joined in two parts. The bride was wrapped in this Bagh by her mother in law while she hands over the house keys. This later became the family keepsake and was inherited by the boy's bride on their wedding day. In West Punjab, following the birth of a boy, it was customary to start a Vari-Da-Bagh, and the grandmother would place the first stitch.
